Introduction
Solid wood skirting boards, are also referred to as solid wood baseboards. As the name suggests, they are baseboard products made with solid wood (usually pinewood finger-jointed board, rubberwood, or fir) as the base material. Instead of being painted, the surface of paint-free skirting boards is finished with a PVC film coating process. This PVC film is not limited to simple white or beige-it boasts an extremely rich colour library, ranging from imitation oak, teak, walnut, and cherry wood grain colours to solid colours like sophisticated gray, pure white, and milk tea, and even stone and fabric textures. The film thickness is generally between 0.12 and 0.2mm, and the surface undergoes wear-resistant and stain-resistant treatment, retaining the solid feel of solid wood while achieving the environmental goal of "zero paint, fast delivery."

Processing Flow
Producing a qualified paint-free solid wood skirting board in a factory requires approximately seven core processes:
2-1. Base Material Drying and Selection: The raw solid wood material first enters a balanced kiln, where the moisture content is strictly controlled between 8% and 12%. If this step is not done properly, any subsequent wrapping will wrinkle due to wood shrinkage.
2-2. Four-sided Milling: Using a four-sided planer, the bottom, front shape (such as curves, steps, flat surfaces), and back of the skirting board are machined in one step. Note: For paint-free skirting, the precision of tool marks is extremely important, as the thin PVC film will amplify any unevenness.
2-3. Precision Sanding: Sanding is performed three times using 240-320 grit sandpaper, achieving -a "baby's skin" feel, ensuring no graininess between the film and the wood surface.
2-4. PUR Hot Melt Adhesive Application: PUR adhesive (moisture-curing reactive hot melt adhesive) is evenly applied on a specialized wrapping machine. This adhesive is heat-resistant and waterproof, crucial for preventing later film peeling.

2-5. PVC Film Wrapping: The selected PVC film is heated and pressed tightly onto the glued solid wood skirting board surface using rollers. Note: Complex grooves require specially shaped rollers to ensure no air bubbles or hollow areas.
2-6. End Waterproof Sealing: This is a step many small factories omit-applying paraffin wax or water-based sealant to both cut ends to prevent moisture from the construction site from seeping in and causing the membrane to peel.
2-7. Installation Grooves and Packaging: Milling anti-deformation grooves and metal clip grooves on the back, followed by final film packaging.
The entire process, from material intake to finished product, takes only 2-3 hours, while traditional painted lines require 2-3 days.

Trimming and Joint Treatment
The way to handle corners and joints is the soul of solid wood skirting board installation and the paint-free process has unique advantages and requirements in this regard:
3-1. External Corner Finishing: The factory pre-fabricates 45° angled joints or uses matching external corner clips-plastic or wooden corner brackets also covered with PVC film-for direct snap-fitting, avoiding gaps caused by inaccurate manual corner cutting.
3-2. Internal Corner Finishing: Standard flat joints are sufficient; gaps are filled with matching color cosmetic glue. Because the membrane surface is smooth, the cosmetic glue adheres well and does not bleed.
3-3. End-to-door Molding Junction: Since the ends of the pre-finished molding are waterproofed and sealed, they can be directly and naturally joined to the door molding and floor trim. It is recommended to apply a matching color touch-up pen to the cut surface after on-site cutting to avoid revealing the underlying solid wood color.
3-4. Flat Joint: When the wall length exceeds the length of a single baseboard (usually 2.4 meters), use the matching flat joint clip-a metal plate hidden on the back-to tighten the two lines from behind, making the joint almost invisible from the front.
3-5. Precautions: The pre-finished molding is not resistant to extreme temperatures. Therefore, when finishing near heat sources (such as radiators or fireplaces), it is recommended to leave a 5mm expansion joint and fill it with heat-resistant sealant to prevent blistering due to heat.

Factory and Equipment:
To ensure consistent quality and timely delivery of every solid wood skirting board, equipment investment is crucial. Our factory, One May Dee Show Factory, (with our own brand: DYWM) , currently has two fully automated PVC/PUR coating production lines, each integrating precision gluing, heating, forming rollers, and automatic end cutting functions. Operating on a two-shift system, daily output consistently exceeds 3000 meters, easily handling medium-sized orders for fully furnished apartments or bulk home improvement purchases. In terms of specifications, we primarily offer four common height options: 60mm, 70mm, 80mm, and 100mm, with a maximum of 100mm. The thickness is uniformly 12mm-a thickness that ensures resistance to uneven wall stress during installation without excessively occupying indoor space. The standard length is 2400mm (7' 1"), matching the ceiling height of mainstream domestic residences, reducing on-site splicing. We also support customized lengths (e.g., 1800mm, 3000mm, or non-standard integers), which can be confirmed in advance during production scheduling to avoid exposed ends caused by on-site sawing. All production lines use PUR adhesive and are equipped with online film surface inspection devices to ensure the tightness of the wrapping and the smoothness of the surface of every meter of skirting board.

FAQ
Q: Is your solid wood skirting board made of true solid wood? Is it pure solid wood or veneer?
A: The inside is solid wood, and the outside is a wear-resistant and stain-resistant membrane (PVC Coating). It retains the substantial feel of solid wood while being more environmentally friendly than traditional painted finishes.
Q: Will the paint-free process produce a glue smell? What is the formaldehyde emission level? Do you have a test report?
A: There is almost no glue smell. We use PUR hot melt adhesive (moisture-curing reactive hot melt adhesive). Our skirting boards meet ENF (formaldehyde-free) standards, and we can provide a third-party test report.
Q: Do you have matching accessories like outside corners, inside corners, and end caps? Is the color exactly the same as the skirting board?
A: Yes, we have a full range of matching accessories. We provide the following trim and joint accessories: External Corner, Internal Corner, Stopper, and Flat Joint Clip.
