Melamine kitchen cabinet door is not made of a single material. It takes particle board, medium density fiberboard (MDF) or hard fiberboard as base material. Its surface is covered with melamine-impregnated adhesive film paper under high temperature pressing. It cannot be made purely of melamine paper. Its official name is melamine-impregnated adhesive film paper faced artificial board, commonly known as melamine board or paint-free board. The surface features wear resistance, high temperature resistance, acid and alkali resistance and easy cleaning. The panel hardly deforms. It can be made into wood grain, stone grain and solid color styles at affordable prices, cheaper than solid wood and PVC doors. Its environmental safety depends on base board grades like E0 and E1. Solidified melamine resin causes no harm to human health. Poor edge sealing may lead to chipping and cracking. It only fits simple straight edges instead of complex shapes. Long-time water contact will expand the base board, so damp-proof base board and fine PVC edge sealing are necessary for kitchen use. It looks and feels like raw board, lower grade than veneer and baking finish doors.

It suits cabinets in kitchen, balcony and storage rooms with dry or slightly wet conditions. For bathroom and under-sink use, pick damp-proof multi-layer board or particle board with hot melt edge sealing. It is not ideal for places with heavy moisture and frequent water splashes.

It also goes by names melamine board, double-sided decorative board and MFC. Some brands such as DYWM belong to this category.
